Everything's Fine

At the beginning of the year 2020 the Doomsday Clock was set closest to midnight since its creation – we are so close to the final hour that time is now given in seconds instead of minutes.

Incoming apocalypse is an inalienable part of human imaginarium. The abundance of final threats is so vast that we can categorize each generation with the threat of its time. Say Summer of Love – I’ll say nuclear war; walkman – ozone hole; TikTok – climate disaster.

Greek word apokalypsis means to reveal. Construction of the story is the same for a hostile alien invasion, divine judgment, or climate destabilization – according to the apocalyptic topos, the unveiling of destructive forces is always preceded with annunciation. It is a place where reality and apocalypse meet – the former is used to legitimize the latter.

Annunciation is represented by an assemblage of latent signals that often feed themselves on common reality, transforming the meaning of it. I’m interested in this mutation of the daily environment. Before catastrophe will wash away the current order I create a collection of encoded harbingers, spots in the present from where we can hear the murmur of our future.■
